Ep 64: Is Applying Early Decision to Law School Right For Me?

Thinking about early decision? Alice goes over what you need to know and questions you need to ask yourself when thinking about early decision to law school. Learn about the benefits and drawbacks of an early decision.

Episode Highlights

  • Early decision means you are making the decision early and so is the law school. Some application deadlines happen in the Fall or very early in the Spring.

    • You are committing to a law school that if you are admitted, you will attend and withdraw applications from the other schools as soon as you find out.

    • Check in with your school to see if they have early decision scholarship programs

    • If you don’t abide by the early decision commitment, the school has the right to revoke your admissions.

  • If you are not admitted through early decision, there are three paths:

    • 1) Your application is moved to regular decision

    • 2) You have to reapply through regular decision

    • 3) You are not given a chance to reapply at all and plainly not admitted

Tweetable Quotes

You are saying something, you are committing to something, and the law school is committing to something. And if one of you is not holding up their end of the deal, it doesn’t work…you are going to school to theoretically become an attorney. If there’s any profession that should understand and respect what a signature on a piece of paper that is an agreement means, it’s y’all.

…my advisor in undergrad had to sit me down and say, ‘You will not graduate if you do not pick something and stick with it.’ That was a very rude awakening for me. So make sure that as you make your early decision choice, it’s something that you are comfortable and settled in with.
